Toitu Papatuanuku

A Humpback whale is seen, faing right, gazing at the viewer. Aoraki maunga sits behind, cloaked in kowhaiwhai style patterns. These patterns represent the many species of rakau that blanket these peaks.

Matariki can be seen to the left in the sky, an ackknowlegement of tipuna who were kaitiaki of Papatuanuku with such deep knowledge and skill. The waters below, dark and complex remind the viewer that water supports all life.
